Good Parenting Hints

Good parenting involves setting limits and following through with fair consequences. As a rule of thumb, only give consequences your child can realistically handle. You can also let them know why they acted that way in the first place and make bad behavior a learning experience for both of you. Be responsive to your child’s signals and needs, while maintaining your own sanity. And, don’t expect too much from your child – you’re not perfect.

While raising a child requires a balance of affection and discipline, there’s no need to overdo it. Try to identify your child’s strengths and compensate for their weaknesses. If you can’t identify their talents, teach them before they learn how to do something on their own. You might even want to consider ghostwriting a report. A child who contributes to his or her own success will have a higher self-esteem than one who is constantly criticizing others.

Authoritarian parenting is a way of raising a child that forces them to do things that they don’t want to do. Children raised this way often end up rebellious and resentful. However, authoritative parenting can lead to more successful children. Although authoritarian parenting is more common in uninvolved parents, it isn’t the best choice for every child. And remember that love and logic are applicable to all children.
